ARE WRIST WATCHES FACING EXCTINCTION!? OR AM I JUST BEING DRAMATIC?

Are watches just for show, did you really use it to tell time?

I conducted a little experiment the other day, just to satisfy my curiousity. At different points of the day I asked a person on the street for the time, out of the 5 men and women , 4 looked to their phone.

It got me thinking - Has the phone killed the watch star?

I had woken up that particular morning wondering where my watch was, I hadn't thought about it in - well I dont know how long. Before my phone became a permanent fixture on my hand, my watch was stuck like glue to my wrist. I had a sort of love affair with it. I really couldnt leave the house without it, how else was I going to tell time, I couldnt depend on a clock being available when I needed it.

My favorite watch was by Guess, big dome face, large hands and a band that swallowed my wrist. It seemed to make any piece of jewelry I paired with it say "Look at me"! Also It was no strain on my eyes to look at the time.

I notice that men still wear watches on a daily basis. I know my brother and father look at watches the way I look at shoes, but even for them it has become less about time but more about style.

I don't think that the cell phones will cause watches to go into extinction, but they're definitley not a necessity like they used to be.

That being said and the inspiration from these amazing pictures, I want a watch.

I was thinking about this just the other day.

One of the first things I treated myself to when I got a job was a nice wristwatch, but now I haven't worn one for years as I kept breaking them!

Maybe we should revive them?

I think a watch can mean more than showing time, it can mean so much more:when I watch mine I remember time is going fast and I have to enjoy every minute, plus I have it from the one I love, which means good time:)

Bisous,
Gia!

I have a very bad habit of losing them so now I don't bother buying expensive ones

Retro - maybe we should!!!
Vintage - Thats a great way to look at it.
Anon - I have that problem with sunglasses!
AlexK. - My phone is always lost on my person but I depend on it to tell time. I may need a watch to save myself all the time I spend on looking for my phone!

I can honestly say I haven't worn a watch since I got my first phone, which is probably over ten years ago now!

If I buy one in the future it would definitely be as an accessory, I'd have to get a lovely big chunky one that is there to be noticed!

I looooooove my watch. I also love my blackberry... they are separate but equal accessories.
