2 Good Reasons Why I Don't Wear Eyelash Extensions Anymore.

First, let me say that I thought this day would never come. I've been wearing eyelash extensions for over 2 years. It's been so long that it was kind of devastating when I looked in the mirror and didn't recognize the girl looking back at me. If you've never had eyelash extensions then you probably think I am being over dramatic. If  you've had them before - then you know exactly what I am talking about.

See how happy I was with my fake eyelashes.

Why did I get them in the first place?  I was invited to try them out courtesy of a local salon. I was intrigued, it was something that was being talked about in magazines, but it wasn't really a trend that had hit Seattle. Well, from that moment on I was hooked. It was incredible how much a few little eyelashes could really make your eyes pop. Also, I no longer had to wear mascara or eye shadow. The fake eyelashes did all the work.

So, why would I decide to walk away from that. Well, two very good reasons. First, let's talk Money.
Unfortunately, extensions are not cheap. One of my resolutions for the new year is to travel more. So, in my effort to tighten the purse strings and save, something had to go. It wasn't easy to let go of my beloved fakes, but after doing the math I realized I've spent around to 3,000 dollars in the past two years on my eyelashes alone. Um, that was a hard number to swallow.

My no. 1 reason for say buh bye to my extensions.

Second reason is Time. Trying to fit this time into your already packed schedule sometimes turned into a juggling act. This isn't like getting your hair cut, where you can have your eyes open and work off your phone. Nope, it's 2 hours of just laying there every 3 or so weeks. Just laying there sounds like some good me time, but it was frustrating because I always felt anxious, like I had a million other things to do and I couldn't even do one.

So, last week my extensions officially came off. I had to go buy mascara and an eye shadow palette. I haven't purchased these items in over 2 years, so all of a sudden I felt like I was 17 years old again and had no idea what to do with them. I laughed at myself a lot. I think I'm going to have to look up some eye shadow/liner tutorials to give me a refresher.

Let me do say one thing - I may not have extensions, but I have already visited the Mac counter and had them show me how to put on fakes. I can't just walk away, but this option will give me back some time and will still let me work towards saving money for travel.

Do you have any "putting on fake eyelashes yourself " tutorials to share?

Wow, I never realized eyelash extensions were such an investment! I had to apply fake eyelashes for cheer and here’s a tip: Don’t completely shut your eyes when you glue them on. Otherwise, you can inadvertently glue your eye shut. That kind of defeats the purpose of beautiful long lashes:) PS I love your style of writing.

I love this post. I was considering eyelash extensions after a friend raved about hers but laying there for 2 hours would kill me! I do put on MAC false lashes when I go out and its totally worth it. My only tip would be to let the glue sit on the false lash before applying for close to a minute so they really stick to your lash line!

I swear by LiLash. It's an eyelash serum that you use at night and my lashes are longer than when I had extensions and they are super low maintenance. No side effects either!

Lashes are so expensive! I'm enjoying wearing mine now but we'll see how long I'm able to keep up with it. I go for an hour every 3 weeks and they do my nails at the same time. For me one hour of time to "unplug" every 3 weeks seems reasonable, but I would get antsy laying there for 2 hours! My mom's been using something similar to LiLash and she really likes it too!
