A New Year Can Begin on Any Day.





So my New Year did not kick off as planned. Oh, yes I planned it. I've been planning my first day of the New Year for weeks. I love a new year, the clean slate. Yes, I know it's just one different day in the same week as the year before, but there's something about 1/1 that reenergizes me. So, I've been planning it for weeks. I was going to go to my annual Yoga class, and this, in turn, would kick off my 30 days of yoga challenge. I like to kick off the New Year with a health challenge, last year it was the Whole 30, this year it's yoga. Well, it didn't happen. I woke up - not hungover, I had one drink on New Years Eve - but just not feeling well. I could physically feel a cold coming on. I was not going to let this cold ruin everything. So I went to my yoga class, 10 minutes in I knew I did the wrong thing and left. That took a lot for me to do, I had to listen to my body. But this one act derailed my whole New Years day plan. I didn't go to the grocery store, I didn't journal, I didn't clean my apartment or go for a walk around my neighborhood. I didn't start off the New Year like I had been visualizing for weeks. Instead, I got back into my pj's and slept. I felt defeated.




It was on Sunday morning after spending two days in my pj's, on the couch and completely disconnected did that I come to the realization that this was ok. I had spent the New Year taking care of myself, putting myself first in a different way. Last year, there were many days where I completely ignored my physical and mental health and just kept working. But this year it's going to be different, it's not going to be balanced, but it's going to be a year where I listen to what's best for me in all aspects of my life.



Also, today is Monday, another new start if you will. It may not be the first day of the New Year, but its just as good as any other day to start anew.






So, I'm still going to do my Yoga Challenge - I will be going to yoga every day for the next 30 days. I know people have done this before, but it's my first time doing that many days consecutively. To keep me honest I will be checking in on snapchat every day before or after class, so be sure to follow me at alixrose206 to make sure I stick to it. Anyways, this long blog post is just my way of saying things don't always turn out the way we plan, even when we plan in detail. But that doesn't mean you just give up on it all together. You find another day, another way and go after it. That's what I'm doing.
