Big Changes: Goodbye Freelance Life.

I know that people usually announce that they're leaving their 9-5 job to become a freelancer, but I'm leaving my freelance life to go back in-house.

Now, don't get me wrong. I loved my freelance life. I got to know all of the coffee shops within a 10-mile radius of my apartment. I worked with a variety of clients and my hours were flexible. But like any job, there's always a downside. You’re never really off. There’s a lot of admin work that could at times overshadow the creative. And there's still a lot of gray around the role of the social media consultant. I could really go on and on about the struggle to stick to my worth.

Also, as a freelancer, you're sometimes not part of the full picture and as a social media manager, it's important that you have insight into what other departments are doing. So, a few months ago I decided to start looking for a full time gig. I didn’t jump into anything. I really thought about it. I did that pro and con list and reevaluated my career path. I spoke to a lot of friends, family, and people who had been through a similar situation.
The most important thing I did was stay honest with myself and my values. I highly recommend writing down what you're looking for in a position. After every phone screen, or interview I checked in with my living document. I also had to work at keeping an open mind. It wasn't an easy process and a million thanks to all the people who offered an ear.

This week I will be celebrating a full month at my new company. It's already gone by so fast. And it's been an adjustment. It's not easy to go from making your own schedule to a structured day. I'm drinking more coffee, my commute is not the best and I'm being challenged every day. No regrets, this is what I wanted. I wouldn't have said yes if I didn't feel like this was the best next step for me.
Remember what I said about staying honest - I did. There are plus and minuses when it comes to big life changes. But there's no doubt in my mind that the pluses are outnumbering the minuses.

This experience taught me a lot about myself and in the last month, I've learned even more. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that you will probably seeing more blog posts around my work/life balance.

So this is why I've been missing in blogging action the last month or two.
Glad to be back.
